Windsurfing with the mistral
The Islands are superb for sailing and yachting and the Malta’s climate lends itself to all-year-round water sports.
Winds are strong and frequent; the most common are the cool northwesterly (majjistral), the dry northeasterly (grigal, or gregale), and the hot humid southeasterly (xlokk, or sirocco).
Summers are warm, dry and very sunny. However, daytime temperatures in summer are usually mitigated by cooling sea breezes, especially along the coast. Spring and autumn are also hot and dry with frequently wind from Africa called the sirocco. Winters are mild with only rare occurrences of cold weather brought by north and northeast winds from central Europe.
Fan of sailing race , come respectively in July and in October to see the earrival of the Bailli de Suffren Trophy (classic sailing boat race from St Tropez to the Maltese islands) and Rolex Middle Sea Race.
