MICAS’ inaugural exhibition, Transcending the Domestic, features large-scale installations by Joana Vasconcelos, known for her unique ability to transform everyday objects into monumental works of art. With themes of domesticity, gender, and culture, Vasconcelos invites visitors to explore how ordinary materials can be recontextualized into powerful visual statements. Highlights include:
- Solitaire: A striking ring made of golden car rims and whisky glasses,symbolizing the intersection of femininity and spirituality.
- Tree of Life: A massive installation of 110,000 fabric leaves, representing independence and strength.
- Valkyrie Mumbet: A vibrant octopus-shaped sculpture that honors powerful female figures and traditional craftsmanship.
- Garden of Eden: An installation addressing the climate crisis through illuminated artificial flowers, depicting a dystopian future.

The MICAS Building: A Fusion of History and Modern Art
Located in the historic Ospizio building in Valletta, MICAS is a unique blend of heritage and contemporary design.
