Scenic Views from The Snop House Terrace

Discovering Malta’s Historical landscape

From the terrace of The Snop House, perched on the highest point of the upper town of Senglea, you can fully appreciate the richness of Malta’s history at any time of day:

  • To the left (north): The Sciberras Peninsula, on which the town of Valletta was constructed between 1566 and 1586 following the Great Siege. Valletta has evolved into both an open-air museum and a cultural hub since its inauguration as the European Capital of Culture in 2018.

  • Opposite left: In the foreground, Fort Saint Angelo, once the residence of the Grand Master and later the headquarters of the Royal Navy, overlooks the dock creek where the corsair knights’ fleet was sheltered. In the background is Fort Ricasoli, built on Sottile Point behind Kalkara, which serves to protect the entrance to the Great Harbour.

  • Opposite (North-East and East): The Three CitiesSenglea (L’Isla), Birgu (Vittoriosa), and Bormla (Cospicua) – offer a panoramic view. Senglea, once a residence for the Maltese elite until the early 20th century and nearly deserted after World War II, is in the foreground. Birgu, the victorious city and former capital during the Knights of the Order of St John of Jerusalem until 1586, is in the second plane. To the right, Bormla is distinguished by its docks.

Later in the day, unwind on the deckchairs and soak up some vitamin D. In the evening, marvel at the lights of the Great Harbour and the celebrations, including illuminations, decorations, and fireworks, that bring Valletta and the Three Cities to life.
